Sectors

Cleaner assets, without sending anyone up there.

A soiled solar array loses yield quietly and continuously, and the loss compounds across a season. A turbine tower is cleaned and inspected at height, by people, at considerable cost.

Both are access problems rather than engineering problems, and both can be handled from the ground.

Solar

Drone washing covers ground-mounted and rooftop arrays substantially faster than manual cleaning and uses considerably less water. Reverse osmosis water leaves no residue on the glass.

Rooftop arrays are reached without scaffolding or roof access, and ground-mounted sites are covered without vehicles between the rows.

Thermal inspection

Thermal survey locates underperforming strings, cells and connections across an array, identifying faults that a visual inspection will not show.

Cleaning and thermal survey use different drones, but both can be carried out on the same visit. One mobilisation covers the cleaning and the condition survey, and the thermal data shows what the clean actually recovered.

Wind

Tower cleaning and visual inspection without rope access or a platform, and with less time out of service.

No abseiling, no climbing and no working at height, which removes the largest risk in the task and the largest part of the cost.

Proven results

ABZ Innovation's figures put solar washing at around 90 per cent less water than manual cleaning, roughly 1.5 litres per 100 square metres. A one megawatt array, about 3,300 square metres of panels, is covered in the order of ten to twenty minutes per drone, and a five megawatt site well within a working day.

Figures are from ABZ Innovation material. Coverage varies with panel layout, soiling and conditions.
