About Us

The same discipline, from film to flight.

1996: Visual effects

The Bionic name dates to 1996, when the business produced computer and motion graphics effects for feature film, creating the animated on-screen graphics and displays that convey key information within a scene. Members of our team worked on productions including the Mission Impossible and Harry Potter film series, and the recognition that work earned continues today through a place on a BAFTA voting committee.

2002: Construction visualisation

The same craft carried directly into construction, where a complex sequence has to be understood before it is built. The Bionic Group was established in 2002 and became a leading United Kingdom specialist in 4D phasing animation, supporting tender submissions for tier one contractors. It continues to trade today, with clients across Europe, the Middle East, Hong Kong and Australia.

2014: Into the air

Those construction clients began asking for aerial survey and inspection data that no supplier could provide at the time. The Bionic Eye was formed in 2014 in response, and was an early holder of CAA permission for commercial drone operations. Our early work was engineering: custom airframes and sensor systems built for applications with no commercial equivalent, including survey grade LiDAR platforms for rail structures, corona inspection systems for utilities operators, and payload capacities extending to 125 kg, alongside more exotic work such as the hydrogen fuelled drone we supplied for a record breaking endurance flight.

Today

As manufacturers matured, ready-to-fly platforms became capable of work that had previously required a bespoke build, and our focus moved to the supply, authorisation and support of proven systems, directed at the cleaning, cargo and application markets. The engineering capability remains, and it underpins our technical support and in-house repair.
